The weather in Sitima

I returned home prior to days of torrential rain which came even before the recent cyclone.

Those initial three days of persistent rain caused a lot of devastation around Sitima with many families losing their homes and taking up temporary accommodation in churches, mosques and schools. Fortunately the area was on the edge of the cyclone and not a lot more damage was done. I spoke last night with Fr Owen, the parish priest in Sitima and he is working with local communities especially those in Chisi and Admarc, to rebuild houses and bring families back together in their own homes.

During the last couple of days I have been with N4BW's trustees attending an AGM and working to develop plans for the future. Short term we will be responding to housing needs and continuing work in education and agriculture. Longer term we are addressing ways of recruiting volunteers willing to share their skills and exploring alternative self employment and income generation initiatives for our friends in malawi
