Great to be back

It’s now a week since I arrived back and it probably took me all of one second to feel settled and comfortable here in Sitima.

The weather has been very kind to us, beautiful sunny days with rain at some stage during each night, keeping the grass green and the crops watered. Jumping into work straight away we (myself, Chris and Veronica) seem to have established such a lot. We have:

· Spent a day with the headteachers, planning in detail what we might do during our month

· Bought buckets and cups for positioning in each classroom to stop children having to run to the borehole every time they want a drink

· Bought mega litres of chalkboard paint to refurbish every chalkboard in every school

· Distributed 200 trees to each school in time for Tree Planting Day on Wednesday 6 February

· Taught sport and First Aid in schools

· Hosted an English-speaking session with those adults who are currently learning how to read in Chichewa; such is their newly gained confidence that they wanted to take on the basics in English

· On our afternoon off on Sunday we wombled around Zomba Plateau, taking in the views before rain stopped play and a visit to an Italian restaurant for ice cream was called for

· And of course, everyday whenever there is free time we play with the children in the village

I first came to Sitima in April 2017 and in those two years I have watched babies turn into toddlers, podgy toddlers into agile little children and other children grow up but as you might imagine a lot more English is now spoken and understood
