Maize distribution

You may recall that earlier in the year I spoke about a potential famine; mercifully that didn’t happen, although the ensuing harvest was not at all good.

Lack of rain during the rainy season and an invasion of the army worm during the cob growing period tremendously affected harvests with some families more seriously troubled than others.

Most have limped through with feeding their families but day by day the maize shortage is become increasingly evident with many adults and children going hungry.

Thankfully some generous donors have stepped in, especially Misean Cara the Irish aid agency enabling N4BW to buy more than 8000 bags of maize which will very shortly be distributed to families most in need.

The maize has been ordered and much of it has been delivered (see photos) and very shortly we will start the distribution, but that in itself will cause headaches as to who to give it to; all would benefit but some are more desperate than others. Sitima parish supports 44 small Christian communities and the leaders of each will be invited to nominate families of any religion or none, that they believe to be most in need and we sincerely hope that we don’t miss any family for whom the maize is an absolute necessity.
