God and Allah matter

Malawi is a country where people freely admit their belief in their God; there is never any embarrassment about it and people of different faiths readily share together.

Here are a couple of recent examples

My cleaner, Veronica and her husband, Samuel, have just completed work on a beautiful home that has taken them 5 years to build. The tiny house they moved into as they were married was just too tiny for their growing family of four daughters.

Their new house has been ready for a couple of weeks now but as eager as they were to move in, they wouldn’t until a house blessing had taken place. The house blessing was a beautiful service, mostly held in their front garden and attended by around 200 of their friends and family of many different beliefs and backgrounds.

Today I was with thirty teachers at a training course and as usual the day started with prayer, this time led by a Christian. The training finished also with a prayer but praise was offered to Allah as the closing prayer giver was a Muslim.
